History of the Devil depicts a deprived and lovelorn Devil who is sick and tired of living in Hell, and is described in London's The Guardian as "a mixture of Decline and Fall, Paradise Lost, Perry Mason, and Flash Gordon." The Devil bemoans the loss of his angel-wings, his freedom of flight, and his elegance and grace, so he calls a trial to seek re-admittance into Heaven. As the trial moves through time and space the play revisits scenes of humanity¼s failures-or are these failures the work of the Devil and his own wicked crimes? If the Devil wins the day in court, he will be reunited with his Father in Heaven. And if he loses, he will spend eternity here with us on Earth. |
